What really impressed me about Hostgator reps on the live chat is that they really know their stuff. I’m pretty net and computer-savvy myself, but these guys taught me a trick or two. And yes, if you are wondering, you are allowed to ask ‘dumb’ questions!

They are polite, and they are prompt. If you are having an issue with something the chat guys can’t handle, they tell you to email ‘support@hostgator.com’. So you do that, and you get a response saying your issue will be addressed within the next 24 hours. You heave a sigh of despair, but hey! The email you have been waiting for is there in your inbox within twenty min. (I’ve tried this quite a few times, and they never fail to surprise me with their promptness).

I needed to switch my primary domain to a different one (one of my add-on domains), and they did it – no problem, and as a really nice gesture, they even waived the $5 fee they normally charge for performing this service, because I was having a problem restoring one of my sites from the backups I had created.

Now I don’t know if they normally do that, but they left room for surprises. At the end of my chat, I’m supposed to fill out a rating form, where they ask how likely it is that I’m going to recommend Hostgator to someone else, and I always end up saying, “Extremely Likely!” What else can I say?
