Although the vacuum cleaner in one form or another was first unveiled in the 19th century, it wasn't until the early 20th Century that James Spangler came up with design for an electrical portable vacuum that anyone took much notice.Luckily for Mr Spangler, an entrepreneurial relative, William Hoover, recognised the potential of his machine and they combined their talents to form a house cleaning dynasty that survives in name to this day.
The first Hoover Upright Vacuum or 'bag on a stick' push along vacuum was produced in 1908 but, as with many new inventions, initial sales were slow. As the machine worked so well, they were confident it would sell if only people would try it which is why they offered a free home trial over 10 days to everyone, and the rest, as they say, is history.
100 years on and Hoover still maintains it's position as the most recognized vacuum cleaner manufacturer in the world. In fact in Great Britain, where they have produced the Hoover Upright Vacuum since 1919, the name Hoover is so synonymous with vacuum cleaners that they are rarely referred to by any other name, regardless of who manufactures the vacuum.
The basic concept of the vacuum cleaner really stayed the same from those early days with a dust collection bag right up until 1993 when Dyson revolutionised the cleaner by producing a dual cyclone cleaner that required no bag. A true story of the backyard inventor made good. This new kid on the block was an instant hit, a little pricey for many households but then you didn't have to keep buying new collection bags as you filled them up, and perhaps more importantly it showed the other vacuum companies, including Hoover that they had to raise their game.
Hoover has been fighting back by introducing the first Hoover upright vacuum that is not only bagless as part of the WindTunnel range of cleaners but is also self propelled. Hoover have also incorporated the cyclonic dirt seperation system developed by Dyson but at a fraction of the cost. Further to maintain their position as the providers of vacuum cleaners to the masses, Hoover also produces the Widepath Tempo cleaner which has a recommended retail price of under $100.
For allergy sufferers, having a good HEPA vacuum cleaner is a must! HEPA filtration is the best solution to removing allergens in your home. If you want to eradicate pollen, pet allergies and mites and dust from your home, a HEPA filtered Hoover upright vacuum does all this.
Hoover upright vacuum cleaners are now right back up there at the top of most peoples wish list because of their quality, practicality and value for money.
