Species: (P. reticulatus)
Origin: This animal originates from Southeast Asia.
Size And Longevity:
This is a beautiful snake and has proved to be fairly docile if raised from babies, but be advised these animals get to be a very long snake!!!, these animals are not a good choice for the beginner, but these are a great display animal and they have beautiful diamond shape gold to brown color patterns, these are among the longest snakes in the world but not the more heaviest snakes, they are more slender in build than some snakes may be but are still pretty strong, these are important facts to understand before you make the decision to buy one because these animals can grow pretty quick, they can reach an average size of 20 to 28.5 feet, but in captivity 18 to 19 feet is more common and these animals are constrictors and they grab their prey and wrap around it, and these animals have been known to live 10 to 15 years in captivity, the good thing is that these are babies and you will have some time to tame them.
Habitat And Caging Requirements:
This species is usually quiet easy to keep but they do require will need some room as they grow later, they do well at a temperature of around 82 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, 1 baby animal can be kept in a 30 gallon tank or vivarium type of setup and an adult will require much more room with a very secure top in a large type of reptile setup at least 8 feet long by 6 feet wide, by 4 feet high, as this species is arboreal and does enjoy hanging in limbs.
You can decorate the tank with wood, live or plastic plant's, aspen substrate and rock's, this species seems to do best in a tropical like aquarium or vivarium type setup with a basking area and some moss, and give them a hiding place, and a water dish to drink from and add humidity, and keep the water clean by changing it every other day, also keep a water spray bottle handy to mist down the setup once or twice every day and this will also help with your' pet's shedding, they also enjoy a basking area, you also need a UV light to set up a basking area for your' animal and also place a heat pad at one end of the setup.
Temperature And Lighting Requirements:
You want to use low wattage bulbs' for best results' to avoid over heating of your' pet as over heating could cause your' pet to dehydrate, these animals' seem to fair well at temperatures of (82 to 95 degrees F.), you also need a UV light set up for a basking area so the animal can move to and from heat as needed.
Feeding And Nutrition:
For feeding your' pet, they like to feed at night' and small ones will feed on baby mice but as they grow they will begin to take larger mice and rats, they seem to do well if fed once every 4 to 7 days.
Handling And Care:
"Alright for the care and handling of your pet", I know these guys' are so cute that your' going too want too handle them all the time right?, but when you first get them it is a good idea put them in their new home and mostly enjoy watching them get use to their new home and feed them well for at least a couple of day's which is really a good idea for any new pet that you get of any kind and then gradually start too handle them from time to time, this is called acclimating your' animal which cut's down stress which in turn make's you have a happier healthier pet, since these are babies you have a better chance of taming them.
