Atticus is an 8 year old, 15.3h chestnut Hanoverian/Thoroughbred gelding out of world champion Hanoverian show jumper First Gotthard. I have free jumped him 5'6" and he has been a successful eventer with many high placings from pre-novice through preliminary, and has been in the show ring since he was 3 1/2. Atticus would be a perfect horse for beginners starting out showing, as he i the most well mannered show horse I've ever ridden- in fact, I think he behaves better at shows than anywhere else! Spends most of his time lying down in his stall and happily watches all the activities and neurotic, NOT so well behaved show horses without a flinch. He knows his dressage through 3rd level and with plenty of potential for higher, it's just not something I have focused on with him. Very smooth gaits and is quite possibly the easiest, most simple horse to ride in dressage that you will ever meet and learns new movements within days. Extremely soft in the bridle and very responsive to your legs and all aids. No spurs or whips required!! However, the catch is, in spring of 2009 he was diagnosed with having bone spurs in his front legs' coffin joints as well as minor ringbone in his right front. We have kept him 100% sound with injecting his joints every 8-12 weeks at around $150 per session, and the very experienced vet who works at the racetrack and does his injectionsis convinced that this is certainly not the end of his career and could quite possibly event through preliminary still if he is kept up on throughout the show season especially, and perhaps is given a gram of bute at shows involving jumping. I would be heartbroken to see Atticus go, since I have had him since a yearling and I've been his mommy for so long, and I will only let him go to a home that will take care of him and hopefully compete him because he LOVES his job... He is my horse that I can throw even my friends who have NEVER ridden a horse in their entire lives on and know that he will be an angel. I have another 18 year old that I simply can't part with and am looking to buy a new youngster who can hopefully take me up through a 2-star event and THREE horses is too much for any 21 year old to handle!!! He is a superb horse and will do anything you ask of him and he just needs someone to bond with him and get him back in the show ring! | | | | | | | | | |
