I'm just trying to find help any way that I can.
We found a litter of three puppies in the past four days. I've been trying desperately to find some help. The first one was found on October 15th under my deck. I believe that someone put her there hoping that the other two would follow. That wasn't the case and we didn't know that there were any more. We took the little girl in and gave her a good bath. Then we went to Petsmart and got her food and some flea repellent. The Dr. there said that she was about eight weeks old. We of course fell in love, but I'm not some fly by night animal lover that thinks she should have a pet without being prepared. AND I'm NOT prepared. In fact, I don't have one now because I can't afford it, nor do I have time enough to devote to a pet. I believe it's a HUGE responsibility and you have to be prepared. It's after all, a LIFE. A precious one at that.
Unfortunately for me (but not for the animals) I've been finding strays since I was seven years old (I'm 55). I've done what I could according to the state my life has been in. For instance, last year, after the hurricane I found a poor sweet boy wandering about and I took him in. I had two jobs and enough money to spare, but I really didn't have the time since I had TWO jobs and slept about 5 hours per night. I wound up taking him to the HSPCA and they got a foster for him and he now has a forever home. YEA!
I'm just writing every organization I find on the Internet because I really need someone to take these puppies in. I just lost my job and was looking for one when this happened. So not only am I in a bad position financially, but now I'm having a hard time job hunting since I have these little pups to care for, and they're more than a handful. I'm concerned too, because they certainly need vaccinations and probably de-worming. I want so much to be able to do what is needed, but I can't. I've spent the last three days trying to find an appropriate and safe haven for these little guys. There's one boy and two girls.
The first little girl we found has been bathed twice and she's been treated with Advantage. The other two have not been bathed yet, nor treated and they have lots of fleas. I am making sure they have plenty to eat and plenty to drink and I plan on bathing them both and I'll get the Advantage tomorrow since the vet's are closed today. We only found them yesterday, Saturday early evening.
If there's anything you can do or anyone that you know that can, please consider helping out. We're in Montgomery near 1486 and 1774. It's a rural development we live in with lots of people who are quite uneducated when it comes to animals. There are feral cats all over and mostly all the dogs are allowed to run loose, none of which are spayed or neutered. It's a nightmare! I moved here a little over a year ago and I've never seen anything like this in my life.
I've lived in at least ten different States in the U.S. throughout my life and although there's abuse and neglect of animals everywhere, this is truly the worst I’ve ever seen. We live on this two road neighborhood called Shady Oak Estates in which I’ve seen only two to three pet homes/parents that understand what it means to care for animals, yet almost every house here has at least one and most have multiple pets. It’s heartbreaking and I plan to do something about it. Whatever it takes, I will do something.
In the meantime, I sure do need help with these puppies. I won’t be any good to them without an income and I can’t earn one if they need me here to take care of them. I’m in a no win situation. But in the meantime, they are my number one priority and I’m doing my best.
