Click title/picture for details. offer US $19.95 mint-condition, rare etched-edge John Adams Presidential Series dollar. The coin is etched with parallel lines. Never, in the history of the United States Mint has there ever been an "etched edge" business-strike coin. Consider the "up-side" potential of this coin. NGC is in the process of examining this variety for attribution. Coin World hobby newspaper states, "The edge of a Proof coin is textured, whereas on circulating and Uncirculated coins it is not." Was an Adams Proof die inadvertently used for business-strike Adams dollars?!? OR Is the Mint experimenting with a process of making all future Presidential dollars with matte edges to prevent counterfeiting (as the Mint has hinted). If that is the case, future coin albums may have a hole for the 2007 Adams "matte edge" coin! With the naked eye, the etched edge dollar appears to have a matte finish but with a 6x magnifier, the parallel etched lines are clear and dramatic. Please look at the close-up photo of a regular edge Adams dollar with an etched-edge Adams dollar. Get in on the ground floor. Buy your matte, etched-edge Adams dollar before the rest of the nation realizes the rarity of this variety. -
