Egypt Abbasid AV Dinar Al-Ma'mun 201 AH Tahir al-Sari

Click title/picture for details.
offer US $350.00

Description: Gold dinar from Al-Ma'mun, who ruled the Muslim empire in the period 198-218 AH (813 - 833 AD). Al-Ma'mun is the seventh caliph of the Abbasid dynasty. His full name being Abu Jafar al-Ma'mun ibn Harun. This is a dinar, weighs 4.1 grams and is 18 mm in diameter. The coin shows the date of minting as 201 AH and the mint as Misr, current day Fustat on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. The obverse of the coin has the words Liallah al-Tahir above the legend and Zul'yamynayn below it, while the reverse indicates al-Sarri below the legend. Please note the coin is much better than the scan with very well defined and legible calligraphy. A definite quality coin.

Date: 201 AH or 816 AD.

Mint: Misr, current day al-Fustat, on the outskirts of current day Cairo the capital of Egypt.

Size and weight: This is a dinar, weighs 4.1 grams and is ~18 mm in diameter.

References: It is Album #222, it is not listed in Al Ush but it is similar to 1160 which is for 200 AH. The coin is listed in Lane Poole's Catalogue of Islamic Coins Preserved in the Khedivial Collection as number 558.

Condition: I would grade this coin as very fine. This is a great looking coin. Please note the coin itself is much better than the scan shows with very well defined and legible calligraphy. A definite quality coin.
