tremblant means that the piece of jewelry is made in such a way that
certain parts of the piece tremble when the piece is subjected to any
movement. To find a ring that is "en tremblant" is rare as normally "en
tremblant" jewelry are brooches, pendants, aigrettes or hair ornaments
decorated with a flower or other motif that has at the top stiff
projecting wires (embellished with gemstones). Sometimes the
projections are finely coiled silver springs, such as were used in the
18th century, but some examples were made with tubular stems enclosing
a strip of steel spring.
