The World of Robert Maker (1944-1993) - Creative Sculpture as Decorative Art
Robert’s creations utilized the normally accepted art language, such as abstraction, form and balance; along with a purposeful “twist” to entertain and provoke thought; while the resultant objects were created and finished with the care and precision attributed to fine art – such as fine patina. His creations reflect human actions, thoughts and expressions from daily life; possibly thought to be made available only by commercial means, i.e. a three dimensional bronze patina totem formed by replacing "traffic" lights with sculpted female breasts. “Robert was a humanist intellectual who chose a pop vocabulary to express his view of the world (George Oswalt, 1994 Retrospective Review).”
George further wrote that Robert presented strange muted animals, sculpted primitive goddesses, mechanical love-making sculptures, and satirical sculpted toys. Thus within these “creations” Robert expressed the human condition, described in three-dimensional welded metal sculptures. It is within this spirit that I organize this collection of his “creations” with the labels: Creatures, Erotica, Primitives and Toys.
I also present an artist’s “home” page image at the conclusion of this ad page to give a “view” of Robert, for he was a person without reserve, though seldom appeared “on stage.” I also will use an image of his sculpted self portrait, recently located. Images of his creative “day job,” as media artist and illustrator for a children’s hospital and more will appear on another page used to describe a service designed to provide exhibitions of his “world.”
All objects presented are for sale and also may be assembled for exhibition.
A complete listing is presented below, page 1, of Robert's creations with the object's name, size, description, price and current location. Please inquire for futher details.
