The Interlace Condo, Singapore's latest condominium complex has been touted around the planet as the new icon for Architectural and Engineering development. These countless accolades have been popping up in blogs all around the web and in design magazines worldwide. The 170,000 meter square compound will home to 1,040 units ranging in size from 2 or three, three plus study and 4 bedroom units. This eight hectare belt of greenery will stretch from Kent Ridge, Telok Blangah Hill and Mount Faber parks. The massive size of the development has allowed designers to include a multitude of greenery to give the building a tropical feel to the over all effect of the venture. The Interlace Condo is more than simply a home development. The Interlace Condo is a breakaway from the standard Singaporean building or skyscraper. Buildings in the city-state are typically isolated, vertical apartment buildings, complexes and towers with little or no superb features to distinguish one from the other. This new venture takes a different and unique approach to tropical green living as the building complex is made of interlinked hexagonal buildings built to highlight Singapore's natural environment. Identical 6 level buildings stacked to form a hexagonal pattern with yards and large greenery and grassed areas, making this the ideal style to include swimming pools, hanging balconies, sky gardens, small parks and rooftop gardens. When living in close quarters like an apartment or condominium complex, privacy can often be compromised. But at the Interlace Condo, privacy is balanced with green open spaces for recreation and generous spacing in between units. Architect Ole Scheeren expounded this project's design addresses the concerns of having to share space with other residents in today's contemporary society.
