The new generation of Kindle comes with new features like 3G, extra storage, longer battery life and more! The Kindle 2.0 is now priced at $259 (cut from $299). The Kindle 2 is definitely the next significant step in the evolution of Amazon E-Readers. Really good product. The Kindle 2 works really well. Pages load quickly, it’s light weight, easy to learn to use, the battery lasts a long time, delivery of content is pretty quick and most importantly the content available is impressive.
Here are few of the upgraded features of Kindle 2.0
Kindle 2 is slimmer, just over 1/3 of an inch
3G replaced EVDO on Kindle 2 for faster access if not on WiFi
Holds up to 1500 titles as appose to 200 on Kindle 1
Its lighter, weighs just about 10.2 ounces
20% faster page turns
Brand new Text-to-Speech feature which can reads any book, website or blog
Those were few of the features Amazon introduced in Kindle 2. The company also expresses an ambitious goal of offering any book that is ever printed, in any language to Kindle in less than 60 seconds. This one reminded me of Google’s book project.
Amazon Kindle 2 is a compact, electronic book reader giving you instant wireless access to thousands of books sold by Amazon. It is also an audiobook player and a wireless Web browser. Kindle uses a cellular data network to deliver books, newspapers, magazines and weblogs to you immediately. The network called "Whispernet" costs nothing to use as Amazon provides data connectivity free of charge as part of your Amazon Kindle purchase package.
WhisperNet and Amazon’s great range of book titles (300K+ titles
including 7K+ free public domain books) are still the #1 feature and
make the Kindle 2.0 the best eReader available
WhisperSync – synchronize across Kindle 1.0, Kindle 2.0,
and soon across other mobile devices. Not only can you share books, you
can also share the exact position in the book you were/are reading at –
pretty cool
16 level gray scale screen is much sharper than the original
Kindle’s 4 shade gray-scale. A few reviewers have been very taken by
the improvement in the screen, and I have to admit it looks much better.
Much better button placement and an end to accidental button
clicks. Next page, previous page buttons are smaller, and you have to
press them from the inside edge. Holding the kindle by their outside
edge does not cause page turns.
