"Learn to Love It" 2009-08-13 By Wendy Breeze (USA) You just have to learn to love this vacuum. Here's the way I break it down:

pros: Light weight. Strong battery. Good suction. Two switches for floors/carpet--does a good job on both, including pet hair. Fits into charger flawlessly with zero fumbling. Solid feel. Used this to replace my frequent purchase of a Shark vacuum. I tolerated poor battery life, and fall-apart construction, and non-existent customer service in the Shark.

cons: It won't stand up alone out of the charger. Emptying the dirt cup is awkward...you have to balance the center round part of vacuum over trash and "dig it out." (I use a wood paint stirrer) You have to fold up the vacuum with the head up to place in charger.

Still, I'd buy one again in a flash. The pros far outweigh the cons!
"Your quality of life will Improve when you buy this vacuum cleaner." 2009-07-26 By Stephen Papastephanou (Maryland, United States) Black & Decker PSV1800 18-Volt Cordless Pivoting Floor Vacuum Cleaner

I cannot find enough praise to describe this unbelievable light versatile cordless vacuum cleaner. It has more power than some of the most expensive corded cleaners. It is fun to vacuum, goes on with a flip of the button under chairs, furniture, and does not grab electric cords as most vacuum cleaners do but pushes them away gently when encountered. The battery is long lasting, more than enough to clean a complete floor of a big house.

It is truly a 21st century vacuum cleaner by it's versatility, power and design.

I recommend it to all my friends.

Buy it, you'll love it.
"It's Good. One Day One Of These Will Be Perfect." 2009-07-19 By M. Gerrish This cordless vacuum cleaner (I LOVE cordless vacuum cleaners) has a lot of positives to recommend it. It does a great job for quick (dog hair) clean ups. Good suction. Good on the edges and area rugs. Easy to maneuver. Really gets under most furniture without argument or bumps, and even fits between the chair legs (in our house). The battery lasts. Feels substantial. Stores easily and out of the way.

A good machine.

But the dirt removal is a problem. Like most quick clean vacuums, there is way too much hand-to-gunk contact. But unlike machines that have some version of a cup that you can empty, this machine needs to be folded, lifted and held over the trash bin. And the weight that made the machine feel solid, is now awkward and unbalanced and makes emptying the dirt an aggravation. For some of us, this is a problem, even with our Wheaties.

Maybe placing the machine into a plastic grocery bag that's on the floor and then opening the dust bin to empty, and then reaching my hand in to pull out the two filters for cleaning? Is that the answer?

I don't know. If somehow the ease of cleaning out the dirt from the Hoover Linx could be combined with the ease of actually using the B&D Pivoting Floor Vacuum ("pivoting" because it folds in half), I would be wild happy.
"So far, so good!" 2009-07-12 By Mary Mancuso (NY) I was on my way to Wal-mart to purchase the Hoover Platinuum but I just couldn't fork over almost 200 dollars. I saw the Black & Decker PSV1800 18-Volt Cordless Pivoting Floor Vacuum and bought it instead. So far I have been very happy. I previously had the original Electrolux pronto and found it to be totally useless. It was basically a fancy stand for a weak dust buster. The Black & Decker PSV1800 has been doing an excellent job on my hardwood floors and even a decent job on my carpets. It also holds a charge well. The one complaint is the fact that the lights does not turn green when it is fully charged, it just stays red. I waited almost two days thinking the lights needed to turn green until I finally called the company and they said the light stays green, you just have to charge for at least 21 hours. Overall I'm very happy with the Black & Decker PSV1800 18-Volt Cordless. My floors are clean because it is so easy to use a cordless vac than dragging out the full size corded vacuum.
"Not suitable for deep cleaning, but great for the quick once-over" 2009-07-12 By Hobbit Feet (Austin, TX) Bought refurbished. Needed something in between a full vac and a dustbuster, mostly to pick up those little annoying pieces of what-is-that? that appear under cover of darkness. Oh, and to go on the occasional dust-bunny massacre. I have a combination of lino floors, some indoor/outdoor carpet (patio), and a couple of area rugs.

Pros: Ah, the freedom of being cordless! Love that. No lasso-ing, no tripping, no plug jumping out of the outlet just as you're thisclose to getting that elusive shard of tortilla chip in the corner.

Also love being able to flip between brush and no-brush with just a quick switch change and no stopping. Wish my Eureka was so agreeable.

I thought it did fine on the lino tiles. Suction gets the job done there.

Cons: Other reviewers and Consumer Reports are right -- this is not going to give you a deep clean like a full-size vac. Not intended to. It picked up visible grit and the top layer of pet hair on the patio carpet and did a decent -- but just barely -- job on the area rugs.

Now I have to come up with another excuse not to do a quick sweep 'round.
