My name is Rod Derrick and I train horses and do farrier work for a living. I've been doing both for 15 years now and plan on doing it for the rest of my life. I'm very passionate about what I do and show it in all areas of my work. I never turn a horse down when they need the help, I work for the horses so the owners can be safe, happy and enjoy the ride. A lot of things can be prevented with a horses feet and training, once the problem is created...I try my hardest to fix it. All in all, I dedicate my work to making sure both owner and horse are pleased.

I specialize in green starting young horses. I also take in problem horses and horses that need some fine tuning. In my training, I use the methods of Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt but have also come to creating my own methods over the years. Training a calm, quiet and responsive horse is my main objective for both horse and rider. During my training sessions I don't like to spend a lot of time in the round pen, I get the horse out on the trails, and sometimes working cattle. Owner is more than welcome to come out and be part of the training sessions with their horse to gain confidence together. I find it very rewarding for the owner to really be involved so that they experience a stronger trust between their horse.
My fee for 30 days training is $750 for training, not including board.

I am also a farrier, I have been shoeing many horses for 15 years. I use the same approach in my farrier work as I do in my training. Always patient and calm. I do corrective shoeing and barefoot trims. Realizing the importance of being on time for an appointment, you can count on me to be there as scheduled.
