I have spent a lot of time thinking about cats lately. I just got a cat two weeks ago, and since them my mind has been consumed with cats. Upon being told that my cat would be spoiled by the inordinate amounts of love given to him, I decided to do some research into cat disciplining. Being completely biased, I do not think that my cat needs disciplining, but I am open to seeing what has been written on the subject. Through my research, I thought the most interesting topic was cat tricks. I have not spent a lot of time thinking about teaching my cat tricks. I did not really think that was something you did with cats. I thought they had too much of a mind of their own to engage in any sort of thing. Now, let me tell you how wrong I was. Cats can learn any number of cat tricks. Same as a dog, they can be taught to sit or roll over or play dead. How useful would it be to teach your cat to come when called? Why not teach your cat to wave? I think a wave is even more endearing than shaking hands with a dog. Perhaps your cat has a particularly endearing and original habit. Teach your cat to do that on command. Teaching your cat tricks will be good exercise for him mentally and, depending on the activity, good exercise for him physically as well. Teaching your cat tricks can also solve any behavior problems as you build a better relationship and learn better how to teach your cat specific behaviors. I have learned that it is easiest to teach your cat to do behaviors in which he or she already engages but to teach those behaviors on command. You can also try to teach your cat an act by progressing through baby steps until your cat reaches the desired habit. You can teach a cat to roll over by first teaching him to lie down on command. Follow that by rolling him over as you say the command. If you continue like this in small steps, you will soon have your cat rolling over whenever you command. Well, you will have your cat engaged in all sorts of cat tricks as long as you remember to reward your cat for his or her brilliance. A cat is not likely to engage in these behaviors just for fun. So, remember to have small, bite-sized rewards to give to your wonderful cat each time your cat does the particular thing you have asked. It is important to give your cat food, cat food. You want to make sure that you are not making your cat sick or ruining your cat's carnivorous digestive system just to teach your cat tricks. Why bite size rewards? You want your cat to be able to eat his treats quickly. This way you can do the same action many times over a short period of time. The repetition is important in learning these sorts of behavior. The repetition is also important for strengthening the association in your cat's mind between the command that you are giving, the action your cat is performing, and the reward that you are giving your cat. Once all of these activities are associated in your cat's mind, then your cat will be quick to perform the desired action. You will have built a better relationship with your cat through specific and purposeful interaction. Your cat trickswill have improved and happier life because of mental and physical exercise. Most importantly, your cat will be the coolest cat in the neighborhood. the above qualities you can't go wrong. | | | | | | | | | |
