Check out these specs: Features: DOUBLE BALANCED PUSH PULL DESIGN: This amp is fully balanced from input to speaker output. Each half of the amplifier contains complementary balanced circuitry. The resulting double balanced configuration cancels virtually all distortion. This circuit is possible ONLY with the exclusive McIntosh “Output Autoformer”. GREATER THAN 160 AMPERES PEAK OUTPUT CURRENT CAPABILITY: Some speaker designs may have input impedances that dip to 1 or 2 ohms at various frequencies. The MC1000 has the output current reserve to drive them. The amplifier can deliver more than 4000 watts output on tone bursts! OVER 400 JOULES OF ENERGY STORAGE: Huge main filter capacitors that guarantee an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and the energy storage necessary for the wide dynamic range that Digital Audio demands. GOLD PLATED HIGH CURRENT OUPUT TERMINALS: McIntosh gold output terminals deliver full power output to speaker wires from 18GA to 4GA. You can connect directly to the wire. Special lugs or pins are not necessary. Single or dual banana plugs may also be used. POWER GUARD: The MC1000 includes the exclusive patented McIntosh POWER GUARD circuit. This prevents the harsh sounds and possible speaker damage caused by amplifier overdrive and clipping. THERMAL PROTECTION: Thermal sensors turn off the AC power if improper loading or ventilation causes the amplifier to overheat. BALANCED INPUT: Interconnecting cables can pick up interference from other equipment or appliances. The balanced input on the MC1000 provides a minimum of 40dB (100 times) more protection against such noise pick up. OUTPUT AUTOFORMER: The output autoformer provides proper matching for 2, 4 or 8 ohm loads. It protects your speaker from damage in the event of an output transistor failure, provides low distortion power transfer at frequencies well beyond human hearing and delivers peak output current in excess of 160 amperes. TURN ON DELAY: Prevents pops or thumps generated in other equipment from causing annoying noises or damaging your speakers. SILENT CONVECTION COOLING: There are more than 2800 square inches of heat sink area, resulting in cool safe operation. No fans are required.
