The Milkor MGL-140 can be employed in both the offensive and defensive missions by conventional and irregular forces. In its conventional role it can be given to Infantry forces as a primary weapon in both the direct- and indirect fire grenadier role.
The amazing pin-point warhead delivery up to 150 metres with a high first time hit chance is attainable with sighting system specifically developed for the MGL-140 it allows for extreme flexibility in mission application.
The MGL-140 weighs much less than a normal assault rifle and is thus straightforward to use within confined spaces during mobile, and maritime operations. It is ideal for use by fast deployment forces whether deployed by land, sea or air.
The MGL-140 can be employed with non-lethal ammo and is therefore ideally appropriate for use by Law Enforcement agencies in Crowd Control missions and in Detention or Prison Management where the use of dangerous force is unwished-for or unnecessary.
Weapon Description
The rear of the frame swivels to permit immediate access to the revolving cylinder magazine. This format has the benefit of that all loaded rounds are immediately selectable to the soldier once the weapon is opened and individual rounds can be changed according to the mission.
The cylinder is driven by a spring that is rewound by rotating the cylinder during reloading. Cylinder advance and alignment are controlled by an inertia operated advance mechanism that is turned on when a round is fired. The advance mechanism can also be operated manually to select the following round and to advance the cylinder in the event of a misfire. An extractor is fitted to the back of the cylinder to help the expulsion of spent cartridge cases.
The firing mechanism is of the double-action type and operates independently from the cylinder advance mechanism
The sight is mounted on a NATO-standard rail for quick removal. The electrical reflex sight immediately adjusts the lightness of the reticule to adjust for changing light conditions. The sight base permits fast range adjustment and adjusts instantly for the natural spin-induced drift of the grenades. The grid reticule permits fast targeting point adjustment and rapid range estimation.
Alternatively the MGL-140 can be employed with the Mechanical Sight. The mechanical sight is a less expensive option for use at shorter ranges.
The telescopic stock is of a very light composite and an integral recoil pad keeps it gentle of the shoulder. The stock has 2 positions : the open position extends the butt backwards. For storage, transport, and use in confined spaces, the stock can be closed to shorten the weapon by 80mm. The stock also has two vertical positions that may be selected to permit simpler firing at higher elevation angles.
Concept, Creation & Approval
The MGL-140 launchers are totally designed, developed and qualified according to the most stringent and contemporary Army Standards and NATO Specifications. Milkor's successful history of virtually thirty years in the generation, development, producing, prime contracting and logistic support of 37/40mm Low Velocity Grenade Launchers all around the world is mythical. Add to that the most current and stringent compliance qualification standards. And you get a bold grenade launcher system.
