Customer Reviews Poor Sound Quality decent noise reduction by .. Allan Gobin () To put the sound quality of these head phones into perspective, they sound worse than the standard head phones you get with your iPod. That's how bad they are. So what's good about them?
1. They are cheap. You can get them for around $65.
2. They do a pretty decent job of canceling noise.
Beware though, all noise canceling head phones color the sound/quality of your music in a negative way. Its hard to describe exactly what they do to the music but its not a good thing.
Bottom line, if you really need some peace and quiet in a small package at a reasonable price then this may be for you. If you are looking for some decent sound quality then look else where...
Very Effective For Business Travel - No I-Phone Trouble by .. E. Evans (USA) Got my Bose Noise Canceling headphones stolen so I needed a replacement. Bought these because I wanted 1) small and good traveling headphones 2) very good quality but not the highest tier and 3) something with a good price/quality relationship....I've bought the best before, but want a good value.
Lets put it this way, I was on AA Business Class where they hand out Bose to use, so I made a head-to-head comparison on a flight to Brussels. Bottom-line, the over-ear Bose have more "muffling out" of external noise...however, I chose to use the Audi-Technica ones when given the choice. Very good quality, although somewhat less than Bose...but I can't tell if that's because of the in-ear part or the noise canceling being less. I think the former. The real reason I think these beat out the Bose is because they are EXCELLENT for sleeping...the in-ear noise free is perfect so can lay on your side with no problem.....can't do this with Bose. I like being able to have headphones in while I sleep to wash out the noise...these were perfect.
So overall, I'd choose these over the Bose given the quality/price relationship...no doubt.
Unlike others who say they have problems, I have no problems with interference using the Iphone, with and without "airplane mode" on.
Only downside of these is the little box where the battery is stored...is a bit annoying hanging there, but again, not a deal breaker or a mind-changer.
I'm keeping them by .. Benjamin V. Esteva () After reading the reviews, I was still skeptical buying an in-ear noise cancelling device. I was looking for a cup headphone for a long plane ride I'm about to take. Then it hit me, (1) I will not be able to sleep comfortably with a big headphone on my head. (2) I will be able to use the ear buds when I work out or go running. So I decided to go for an in-ear headphone.
Just got them 2 days ago. I compared them against Sony's MDRNC22. Using my ipod nano, there is less bass on the Sony but highs seem clearer. The ATs bass response is awesome and highs are acceptible. The downside, vocals sound a bit too loud for my taste. I have yet to find an EQ setting that will maximize the sound for me. However, the determining factor is the noise cancellation. Standing in front of a refrigerator and fish tank, I can hear the hum of the fan and fish tank filter. Sony filtered some of the hum but I can still hear it. With the ATs, I could not hear the hum at all. After wearing them for a couple of hours, my ears feel fine. Let's see how they perform during the plane ride. BTW, the ATs are $30 cheaper than Sony. That's why I've decided to keep them.
So far highly satisfactory... by .. Akazgea () After my painful experience with in-ear active noise canceling headphones, thanks to the extremely low quality models created by Philips (avoid if you can), I wasn't sure about buying an active in-ear noise canceling model. But thanks to Audio Technica reducing the price of this model (assuming it happened around the time they discontinued ANC7 model), I decided to give this one a try.
So far I am very satisfied. The pre-set model fitted rather well in my ears, and even though it is not the kind of almost-perfect sealing you get with the passive in-ear models, the active noise reduction circuitry compensates for that loss.
I think the main advantage of this model is being able to isolate like a sealed in-ear model without the annoyances that come with the process of inserting something inside your ears. In my case, after a few minutes of using it, I almost feel nothing. No pressure, no feeling that something is in/on my ear (unless I move; there you will get the enhanced cable touching noise, that means, it is not good for intense activities, unless you enjoy such interference). Even regular earbuds may not give this much comfort. And I don't have to try to force settle it to get the perfect sound quality settings either.
Regarding the quality, both noise cancelation performance and sound quality are good. I am aware that the sound quality is not great, but, it is good enough to let you continue listen songs for hours with no feeling of displeasure.
As with the most recent models, it comes with a button to momentarily minimizes the output (it doesn't turn off, you can still hear the music at a very very low volume). I don't use it, but I know some people like to have that option.
Regarding the accessories, it comes with the usual stuff (airline adapter, different size plugs, case). The case is really small, and sufficiently protective. To wear it with comfort, the headphone cable can be separated into two pieces (or extended for further reach, depends on how you view). Which is good if you want to attach the noise canceling circuitry to your clothing and not want to go through the trouble of squeezing the cable in your pocket.
Comfortable, small and quiet by .. Elizabeth A. Stelz () Very small & convenient. Blocks sound well. Very comfortable earbuds - better than most. Good price.
