Soft, thick foam covers all of the surfaces that contact the guitar. Other guitar stands have felt which often doesn't provide adequate protection for the guitar. Plastic endcaps come off easily, but that has not proven to be a problem. Fits both my acoustic and electric guitar. If I ever have the need to buy another guitar stand in the future I won't even think twice about buying this one again.
