The big problem came with attempts to get new parts. A fast summary = 10 months without use, $350.00 cost of new parts to make usable with only a need for a new pully. I've been using it for a month now, and when I say using it I mean it. It has been running trouble free for at least four hours every day for the past month. I started to not choose this lathe due to a hand full of negative reviews here but am very glad that I decided to purchase it. I couldn't imagine that Delta made a problematic product like described in reviews below so I checked with Wood magazine. After downloading their comparison test of six lathes priced under $1000 I discovered that the Delta 46-715 came in second over all and was their choice for best-buy. You have to take negative reviews with a grain of salt. Many can be attributed to malcontents...people that just don't like anything. Not saying that's the case here, unfortunately some flawed products get past quality control. But please don't let one or two bad apples spoil the whole barrel.
