Skin is of different types namely normal, dry, oily and combination skin. The people with normal skin are blessed because it is commonly a problem free skin. But only a lucky few of us have ‘normal’ skin. Oily skin will have excess secretion of oil and this may lead to the problems like pimples, acne etc. Dry skin develops problem like fine lines, scaling, dryness etc. Combination skin has dry skin in some areas and oily skin in other areas, so such type of skin faces the problem of both the oily and the dry skin. Our skin receives the less blood flow and the lower gland activity than the any other organ in our body. The average square inch of the skin holds 650 sweat glands, 20 blood vessels, 60,000 melanocytes, and more than a thousand or so nerve endings. The epidermis of the skin has no blood vessels. The cells in the deepest layers are nourished by diffusion from blood capillaries extending to the uppermost layers of the dermis.
Skin becomes dry because it lacks moisture and not oil. Dry skin is caused by many factors. Environmental factors such as over exposure to the sun, wind, cold etc can dry the skin. Contact with some chemicals, use of some cosmetics, excessive bathing with harsh soaps, can reduce the natural moisture of the skin and may lead to dry skin.
