The bottom part is dishwasher safe, however, if you don't put it in the dishwasher it will stay shiny. I chose the aluminum over the stainless so it would be lighter in weight. It is the perfect weight for me. It heats quickly, but has not scorched anything. It is also a great size. I had a smaller pressure cooker and needed something bigger. Excellent Value by .. A.
