At the insistence of my best friend, I finally broke down and bought this one so that I could make my own Cuban black beans and rice. I love it! I feel comfortable with the safety features of this one - so much better than the jiggle-top WWII-style my mother owned. I make all types of beans, soups, roasts, etc. in this and it's really fun to experiment.
Problems maintaining pressure by .. S. C. Lee () We purchased this Fagor pressure cooker to replace a smaller Mirro that has been working well for us for decades. We can get our Fagor to hold pressure once in a while but most of the time it doesn't. The instruction book is 98% recipes with only one or two all-too-brief paragraphs on setting it up. I'm looking to replace it with another pressure cooker; something less frustrating to use and more reliable than the Fagor brand.
Great addition to the kitchen by .. Alba Pedrola (Seattle, WA) I've cooked in other pressusre cookers for over 50 years, nothing compares to this for the ease in using. Vegetables and beans come out perfect. I'm a vegetarian so haven't cooked anything with meat. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get out of the kitchen faster,plus saves money on cooking fuel.
Great pressure cooker by .. Laurie () After reading MANY reviews, I ordered the Fagor Duo 8 quart. I have used it several times. It works great. It is solidly built with a good seal and good handle. I also bought the Pressure Perfect cookbook. I have had a lot of success using the timing charts from that cookbook - they seem to be more accurate that the Fagor manual/cookbook.
I am only giving this 4 stars because it is a little confusing when this gets to full pressure. Yes, the yellow pin comes up - that is when it is supposedly at full pressure, but in the manual it says also to look for a gentle flow of steam. Most of the time after the yellow pin rises there is no steam coming out. I have to keep the heat on high for several minutes longer to make the "gentle flow of steam" appear. I don't know if this is the correct thing to do or not. Otherwise if I turn the heat down after the pin pops up, I don't get a flow of steam, but it seems to cook the food fine that way too. Pre-soaked kidney beans cooked perfectly in 14 minutes with natural release - with pin up, without waiting for the flow of steam.
Pressure regulator does not work right. by .. Mary, NJ () I have a 6 qt Magefesa and decided to get an 8qt, but I decided to go with a Fagor which has a good rating. The first meal I made was corned beef and cabbage. After a while of heating, the cooker never came up to pressure. I stopped it, took it apart and tried again, it worked. This has happened several times where it did not work right. The steam is not coming out of the valve correctly, and I'm afraid of it. The problem, I'm past the 30 days return by 2 weeks. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, who knows. There were other reviews about this also. I'll stick with my Magefesa, always works, first time.
