Customer Reviews More of a tip than a review by .. M. NEGRON (Waterford, MI) I am not going to go into detail about how good the product is... instead I will give you a cleaning tip. I burnt something for not following the recipe the way it should have been and of course things got cooked on the bottom to a point I thought the cooker was ruined. The someone told me to use bar keepers secret to clean it and this did the trick! It does not even damage the surface. So, yeah, it is a great pressure cooker when you follow directions! :) I am very pleased with it and I would recommend to a friend or family member.
Worked well for a while, but by .. Galen Jang (San Jose, CA) I owned this pressure cooker for about two years. It worked great. However, just a week ago I found out that two of the screws that held the pressure valve to the cover have rusted. That allowed the steam to escape and to prevent the pressure from building. While I had done some good cooking in this pressure cooker, it is not designed to last. I guess I now have to try another brand
Great Value! by .. D. M. Schneider (Aurora, CO) I am new to the world of using a pressure cooker other than hearing the one my mom used when growing up. So far in the first month of ownership, I have used mine 7 times. Very easy and safe to use! As noted by others, when using tap water, the mineral deposits make it appear that the pot is rusting or pitted. The use of Bar Keepers Friend makes that not a problem and the cooker remains looking new. I have not tried the use of bottle water to lesson the mineral deposit's, it just hasn't been that big of a factor for me. The 8qt. size seems perfect for just one person or four. I found the size great for cooking a 3 to 4lb. big roast or a slab of corned beef. Overall, I would recommend this cooker to anyone!
presto 8 qt stainless pressure cooker by .. Vickie Rolfe () I've had pressue cookers for 35 yrs and love them for cooking greens, lamb shanks and corned beef just for example. This cooker is easy to use, quiet (not like the old hiss and wiggle)and no long handle to stick out and make storage difficult. The stainless will help prevent ptting from acidic foods too. its light weight and I would buy this again in an instant.
Good Solid Cooker by .. T. Monroe () This unit replaces a 30 year old 6 quart aluminum pressure cooker. Have had it about a month and used it 3 times. Seems to work great. Bottom conducts heat well and fits nicely over the large element of my electric stove.
The 8 quart size is very useful. I can cook several quarts of chicken vegetable soup plus a whole chicken at the same time, for example.
I would suggest putting a little vegetable oil or margarine on the lid gasket, it makes closing the lid much easier.
The stainless seems to clean quickly and easily with a Scotch-Brite pad.
If you haven't used a pressure cooker before, they cook very quickly by raising the pressure to 15 PSI, this allows the temperature to increase well beyond what you could get at normal atmospheric pressure (water boils at higher temperature under pressure). At the same time the steam displaces the oxygen inside so food can't oxidize or "burn". Perfect for people like me who like to eat but hate wasting time cooking.
