Customer Reviews A quick read, deliciously macabre and nightmare inducing by .. Heath L. Buckmaster (Sacramento, CA USA) I love a good horror story, and love it even more when it doesn't play around and just gets to the good stuff. This book is a very quick read - I got through it in less than 30 minutes, with a 5 minute interruption to get a beverage refill.
The book gets you from the opening line and doesn't stop there. I was sure after the first page that I was going to have nightmares after reading it (and I'm not sure that I won't).
Two deliciously macabre and evil stories intertwine. Chapter one gives us the driver who delights in picking up hitchhikers and having his way with them before disposal. Chapter two gives us the hitchhiker who takes advantage of the benevolent offering of a ride and turns it into a 5 minute or less nightmare for the driver(s). Chapter three brings both characters together for a rush of a ride to determine who will win out in the end.
Crazy can happen in the driver's seat or the passenger's seat in this short story from Jack Kilborn and Blake Crouch. I'd say this a great addition to your horror short story collection, with an ending that will make you chuckle with sinister glee.
What goes around comes around. by .. Marjica (Santa Cruz, CA) I really enjoyed this novella. Yes, it's pretty violent, but that's what it's all about and you can't say Jack and Blake didn't warn you. (Crouch and Kil(born). Nice touch. It was interesting to read how at the end, writing back and forth--they had to wait to see what the other character was going to do. Sounds like fun. Well, since I liked this I'm going to check out their other books. Thanks.
Awesome by .. Joanne Harris (GA USA) This was a great story, and now has me hooked on the author. Scary as all get out, and I read it in one sitting. Cannot beat the price either!
Great quick read! by .. D. Ganley (Florida) I read the previous reviews & was almost scared to open it up on Kindle, but I couldn't resist ordering it for free. It wasn't a disappointment--quick read, but I didn't expect the ending (or the middle, or the beginning--I didn't know what to expect, actually) but it's well worth the read & probably well worth ordering the guy's other books. I hope they team up again! If they actually got in the same room together & wrote a book, Stephen King might as well retire--these guys are good! Deb
Excessively Disturbing by .. Tigerpaws (Silver Spring, MD USA) I am not a wuss, and I love horror novels. The authors are correct in warning people about the graphic, and I personally find, unnecessarily grotesque and graphic imagery. This is not horror, but a description of sick, unnerving mental problems and extremely personal violence. The average person should probably not be exposed to this imagery. I'm not sure why anyone would want to read something like this. It's not entertaining and any written skills the writers do have could be applied to a much more beneficial thriller product. They've simply wasted their time. Being disturbing does not qualify something a good literature. I do not recommend this book to anyone, and I would discourage Amazon from making such a text available for free. Many people will find this upsetting. I strongly suggest avoiding it.
