Zack Prichard () Carla Neggers' "The Widow" is a engaging read that ultimately satisfies not only its plot issues but its emotional ones as well. Abigail Browning is a Boston homicide detective who has returned to the Maine site of her newlywed husband's unsolved murder because of an anonymous phone call. She's outside her legal jurisdiction, but is determined to find the closure she needs. She must cross the bounds of emotional ties that bind many in this downeast community together and that leads to complications and new problems. Not the least of those is Owen Garrison, a lifelong friend of her murdered husband, who has his own burdens and a definite interest in Abigail. Neggers is masterful in working out the identity of the killer and at same time creates real characters with a genuine depth of emotion. You find yourself liking these people, even the difficult ones, and that makes finding the killer even more compelling. A great read you won't want to put down. Maine mystery by .. It was enjoyable, but hard to follow in parts- jumped around, lots of characters, and the conclusion was a bit of a letdown. I never fell for the characterizations either. Still unclear as to why Abigail was originally attacked. Worth the read if you like her other books and have time, but not the best book to judge Carla Neggars by. This book sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by .. Jessie Habekott (Columbus, OH, USA) I thought this book was going to be great. The description sets us up for a huge dissappointment. I did not make it to page 50. i got lost. All the flashbacks, the details, the backgrounds of unimportant people. REading so much unnecessary information i forgot what the plot of the story was. This was the first book I tried to read by this author and it did not make a good impression on me. The writing was very choppy, i could not tell if I the storyline was present day or the character flashing back to before her husband died on there honeymoon. Just trying to keep up with what was real and what was memories and resumes of other characters was too much work, it was like trying to do an assignment in college on a boring british novel. dont waste your money on this book.
