Customer Reviews Love it! by .. Shawn S. (Washington, D.C.) Terrific for scrambling 2 or 3 eggs, heating pasta sauce for one or two.
I use this quite a bit more than anticipated.
Great item, but I thought it was a little larger too by .. sheritiger () There is nothing "wrong" with this item, persay. But, I too thought it was a bit bigger than it actually is. I was quite amused to get it in the mail and find that it is, in total just 4/5 inches long, including handle, rather than the general way skillets are measured, which is diameter of the pan itself. I wish I had known, but got some good ideas of how to use it from the other reviews, so...oh well. Would still like to find an actual 4/5 inch skillet.
Perfect for serving sizes by .. Tsiri 2006 (San Antonio, TX) I have one of the Lodge Miniature cast iron spoon rests that I cook with on a routine basis. Wal Mart sold them as ashtrays; it's never had that use in my house. This is perfect for a single serving size of egg, sausage, etc. For making biscuts or serving cornbread for each place setting, children and adults alike go crazy over them. And cast iron is easy to clean and maintain. I grew up with it.
I gotta try the garlic and olive oil idea- it sounds fantastic.
For cuteness, nothing beats these items. There isn't any way to describe what happens when I take these off the wall hooks, oil and fill them with batter and pop them in the oven in front of guests. They hold nearly a quarter cup of liquid, so I fill them with BBQ sauce after making cornbread and give each guest their own sauce pot. They go crazy for them.
Absolutely nothing cooks like cast iron. I'll be ordering them throughout this year as 2009's Christmas list gifts. My friends will LOVE it!
For those disappointed with the size, Lodge and Amazon make it clear these are minatures and give the size. Season them properly, take care of them and they'll last forever.
Great for tadka by .. mona (usa) I bought this item exclusively for making tadka (spices tempered in oil in Indian cooking). This is very small, the perfect size for one batch of tadka dal with 1-2 tsp of cumin or mustard seeds (and maybe some curry leaves, haven't tried yet). It takes up practically no space in my space-challenged kitchen, so I don't feel guilty about using it for just one purpose, as an experienced cook once told me to do. It heats very evenly and quickly, and I just wipe it out with a paper towel while it's still warm. I think it's pre-seasoned (looks that way) but I couldn't find that information on the Lodge site. It's very inexpensive and will last forever!
Cute by .. Misseypoo (Miramar,FL USA) I love these miniature skillets. I use them to melt butter, make small portions of buttermilk cornbread /biscuits. They were pre-seasoned...I've had no problems with them.
