Customer Reviews South Beach dieters, this is for you by .. M. Rickey (Yakima, WA) The 6-1/2 inch cast iron pan is PERFECT for a breakfast frittata. It's absurdly inexpensive, heats evenly on low, lets you saute the vegetables with only a little bit of oil and the eggs don't stick, and you can pop it under the broiler with no worries about melting handles. Then it cleans up in seconds. Things don't get much better than this!
best little skillet ever by .. Kehau (Hawaii) Cheap, flawless, lasts a lifetime and never sticks-- provided you care for it appropriately-- What more could anyone ask for?
Perfect for one by .. M. Salcedo (Washington, DC) I use this little skillet all the time. It's perfect for a single serving. It turns out a mean grilled cheese sandwich or quesadilla, and is just the right size to fry or scramble an egg. I bought it at the same time as a 5-quart Dutch oven, thinking that would be the piece I use more. But the skillet makes me lunch several times a week.
These are my first cast iron pans. I was always afraid of buying cast iron because of the care. They do require a little more work than stainless steel or even tin-lined copper pans, because the cast iron needs a light coating of oil before storing. But it's worth it. The cast iron holds the heat very efficiently, resulting in quick, even cooking. And the oil coating continues the seasoning for a chemical-free, nonstick surface.
I'd recommend getting the pot holders that slip on the skillet handles at the same time.
Cooking Area Smaller Than Anticipated by .. SPQR (VA USA) This pan is thick, heavyweight, and will last for decades. I have other cast iron pans, and like their durability. My only regret with this particular pan was the cooking space. The actual flat-space cooking area is barely five inches in diameter. The 6.5-inch measurement refers to its extended sides--not the cooking area, however, its size is great though for making one pancake at a time or one egg.
Excellent product by .. Erik Gordon Bainbridge (West Marin, CA United States) I've been using cast iron frying pans all my life and was glad to see this being sold on Amazon at half the price my local hardware store gets for it. It's the first pre-seasoned cast iron pan I've owned. I was skeptical about it and wondering whether I should keep looking for one used or at least not pre-seasoned.
However, the pre-seasoning works great. I'm totally happy with this little frying pan. I've been using it for about a month now and with proper care, there's no reason why someone can't still be using it a hundred years from now.
Like all cast iron pans, it requires proper care. I clean my cast iron pans carefully (without soap) after each use and re-season them with vegetable shortening. Food cooks well and doesn't stick.
