It does however, make building structures with Duplo blocks much easier. My son currently has a farm built on his and with out the building plate it was very hard to keep the blocks from falling apart. The building plates are a hit, but this one is for larger legos, not tiny legos, as my five-year-old fondly calls them. Pay close attend to detail if you are looking for a specific size. : )
