These instructions will help you to get lively chickens because if they are able to get their basic needs satisfied they will be cheerful and consequently full of life.
1. Before starting to build a chicken house, sketch the blueprint on paper because it is best to plan out your idea before spending too much time and money. The materials that you may need are: wood, windows, construction tools and heavy mesh wire.
2. The chicken house should be built in an elevate spot and should have ample drainage so that it can be safe from rains and storm. It should have a wooden flooring to prevent snakes and rats from breaking in. The doors should be big enough and the windows should face the south.
3. You should allow at least eight to ten square feet of area for each chicken, a perch space of at least six to ten inches and 1 nest box per four to five chickens.
4. The house must be appropriately ventilated so that fresh air supply is provided. It should also be suitably lighted and heated to encourage healthy eggs throughout the year. The roofs should slant so that water will not pool on it.
5. The feeders should be at the right height so that the chickens are not able to make a mess. If appropriate automated food and water dispensers should be put in so that the chickens are always fed and properly hydrated.
6. The windows should be wrapped with mesh wire or sliding windows. You should install fencing and bury it at least a foot beneath the surface of the ground to prevent some predators try to dig under the fence and enter the coop.
7. It is very important to make sure that proper cleanliness is to be carried on inside and around the coop and the straw must be replaced on a daily basis.
