In MEMORIAM of Loved One?

The question that I ask on this MEMORIAL DAY … as we so often do … is this ! Who do we honor today ? … Who went that extra mile?
Who went out of their way and gave of themselves?
Who sacrificed themselves so that we might be free?
Memorial Day ... originally called Decoration Day .. a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day.
I beg to differ today …
If some person died “in our nations service” … would that person qualify even though they may not be considered as having been in our military or even born in this land?
We have long been taught that we are living in the land of the FREE .. and the home of the BRAVE … right? Follow this thought for a moment please … We the people of the United States secure the “blessings of liberty” … to ourselves and our posterity - ( those we love? … all future generations? ) … my candidate for “memoriam” today is a very close friend of mine … and although He and I have had many conversations and discussed many different subjects .. over the past forty plus years .. I have never really given Him much attention as having sacrificed or died “in our nations service” …
I guess if you think about it .. “WE” are “our nation” … after all what is America but a conglomerate of individuals all having come together to get as much as we can from our country and in the modern era … not put back too much … not give of ourselves much these days … for OUR COUNTRY … not go that “extra mile” for the “land of the free and home of the brave” … My selection today is the very one who provided those I love … that are no longer with us , and these even gave plenty to this United States … like my Dad … and my Uncles … who all went to fight in WWII … some died … same came home … some disabled or living with the pains and scars of WAR … all the rest of their natural lives!
My “honoree” today is one that gave His life for OUR COUNTRY … for everyone in our nation.. every man , woman, and child … no matter what country they came from … no matter whether they are here “legally” … or “illegally” … He went the extra mile so that we might be free! He suffered and dies at the hands of soldiers … even though the war was not a “declared war” … it was a vicious war and the battles fought were of monumental consequence … He was not a pilot at the time, but more of a foot soldier or who as we used to say during the Vietnam Era … he was a “ground-pounder” of sorts … fighting the battles - person to person and house to house … and instead of “hand-to-hand” combat …
He chose the path of “heart-to-heart”, “mind-to-mind” and more importantly … “soul-to-soul” … ONE AT A TIME … So today I honor all soldiers … or persons … who have given themselves in service to Our Country … for having done so … YOU HAVE given yourself for me and for those I love … and you have even in some ways fought for those we may have called our enemies!
I salute YOU ALL TODAY … and in doing so, I give you honor for your service to our country!
And in my “heart-of-hearts” today … I say thank you to Jesus Christ for having gone that extra mile and then some … through the streets of Jerusalem … carrying a cross … the very instrument that would mean His death as He took the hill at Golgatha and there He used that very instrument and stretched Himself out on it and allowed Himself to be nailed down to it – so that He could defeat the enemy! The enemy of all men .. Sin and DEATH!! He used that cross as the very weapon of defense for mankind … so today I Honor Him also as he also “paid the ultimate price” so that we might be free ---- and that price is paid in FULL!!
May He hold your loved ones today and every day!
May you know today, that any soldier or person - who gave of himself or herself - and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom in these United States of America or it’s citizens … is in the BEST OF COMPANY TODAY!! ...
