Batteries are usually charged inside the laptop when the AC adapter is plugged into the electricity outlet. In contrast, an external charger charges the battery outside of the laptop. What is the purpose of using an External Charger? a. When you have second battery for your laptop. You go out with the laptop while the spare battery is charging at home. b. Your battery can't be charged with the AC adapter. Your laptop circuit board has a problem and you don't want to spend $400 more for a repair, or maybe the AC adapter connector (DC jack) is too loose and it can't get a good contact. Why is Voltage important when selecting the correct charger model? Although some laptops can handle both 11.1v/14.8v batteries; the charger can't.
