Thinking about a beach holiday, Barcelona hotels offer access to virtually three miles of beautiful shore. There are areas close to cafes, others more quiet and with trails for jogging and biking.
Seven official beachfronts along the Mediterranean Sea are, from West to East, Sant Sebastiá, Barceloneta, Playa del Paseo Maritime, Nova Icria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, and Nova Mar Bella. Sant Sebastiá and Nova Mar Bella are less popular , doubtless because they are less accessible from Barcelona hotels.
All of these are equipped with lifeguards, bogs, and inside reach of those with incapacities. Thru the summer months, the beaches fill with locals as well as tourists. Barceloneta is a quick cab ride from central Barcelona hotels, and possibly is most popular, especially to tourists. There are also lot of security and police personell, and an authentic old-time pier feel.
Windsurfing is great at the Mar Bella when it is breezy on the coast. At Bogatell there are lots of Yank eateries and bars. Playa del Paseo Maritimo is kid friendly ; there's a playground for the tiny ones, and even a skateboarding area for the other kids that do not need to be in the water.
The ports are worth a visit too, bringing a breathtaking view particularly at sundown. We're talking about a lot of eateries along the beach but there are Barcelona hotels on the beach, if you want immediate Sea access. Plenty of visitors note the difference of the beach at night time ; it becomes a different place and some argue its even better than in the hot, crowded afternoons.
For the most part, pets are authorized on the beach. If you want to bring your own, just be polite to others but there are a large amount of dogs and Frisbees also enjoying the sunshine and sand.
The beaches are typically staffed March through the end of Sep , and busiest in the warm months, May thru Aug. In the wintertime, the beachfront scene is totally different, with scarves, mittens, and hot chocolate vendors.
Because these beaches are so near to the enormous town and busy Barcelona hotels, they can feel just as crowded as the downtown streets. Ask around about visiting San Pol De Mar, Castelldefels, or Caldes d'Estrach.
Natural storms take away lots of the sand at the shore each year. Currently there is a stabilization project underway, to increase the shore and develop a new beach area, in addition to protective architecture including underwater dikes for the current areas.
So enjoy your stay at some Barcelona hotels by going to the beautiful beaches!
