This thatched
cottage was recently restored. It tastefully combines many traditional
cottage features with all modern conveniences. The cottage is just
minutes walk from the Galway Bay shoreline and is ideally situated for
touring South Galway, the Burren and Connemara regions. The cottage
sleeps 8 people in four bedroom areas. Two of the bedrooms are en-suite
and can be used as either double or twin bedrooms.(Note - a ground
floor bedroom has a large en-suite, suitable for persons with minor
mobility restrictions)The other two bedrooms are double rooms and share
a shower. The cottage has a large dining/kitchen area with the original
stone fireplace, and a spacious and cosy sitting room also with an open
fire. Guests love to relax by the fireplace and play games or tell
stories. There is a small patio area to the front of the cottage.
Swallows and starlings nest in the cottage and outhouse. Children love
watching the birds, finding frogs in the garden, and taking their small
nets to the shoreline to fish or to collect cockles, mussels and
seashells. There are several beautiful walks - a three mile circular
walk from the cottage passes local farmland and skirts Galway Bay
inlet, another option is a walk along the pebble shoreline, Kylemore
Park is just a mile from the cottage where you can enjoy a walk through
the small wood. The smell of wild garlic is divine in late Spring. This
park also has a children's playground. There are two piers nearby -
Galway Yacht Club 1.5 miles, Ballinacourty 1 mile, where one can fish
for Mackeral.
The cottage is three miles from Oranmore village(on
the main Galway-Shannon Airport road -N18 ), five miles from Galway
airport, and eight miles south of Galway city. The cottage is within
easy distance of several golf clubs (Galway Bay, Salthill, Athenry,
Gort and Loughrea, just five miles from Ballybrit Race Course, three
miles from Clarenbridge famous for its annual Oyster festival and
excellent restuarants.
There is a local store and clubhouse just a
half mile from the property. The local store stocks all basic
groceries. The towns of Oranmore, Clarenbridge, and of course Galway
city have the main supermarket chains.
