Nant-yr-Haf is
an old stone building that was the valley school until the early
1950's. Originally the building, which is some 120 years old, was one
large school room with a fireplace (apparently where the teacher always
stood in the cold winter months!) with a girls and boys cloakroom and
small kitchen. The bathrooms were old longdrop affairs up in the stone
sheds at the top of the playground. After the school closed the
property was changed into a residence and has recently undergone
extensive refurbishment.
Now Nant -yr -Haf is a three bedroom,
2 bathroom detached stone built rendered cottage, in a beautiful
location, which has been renovated and restored to a very high
standard. The property sits at the foot of Moel Siabod overlooking the
Lledr Valley, which is incredibly quiet and peaceful and having no
through road. The property is ideal for families or small groups
wanting to enjoy the fresh air and stunning scenery, with peace and
tranquility, and yet still offering high quality facilities and a
luxury feel rarely found in holiday cottages. The ambience of the
valley is timeless and unchanged, with no ambient lighting or noise
making evening stargazing a real wonder.
The entire valley has
a small but friendly local community with only a dozen or so occupied
farms and houses; this is hill farming country with sheep and cattle
grazing near the property. As there is no through-traffic the road is
quiet and safe for walking, cycling and children's play. There are an
infinite number of good walks, from a stroll up and down the valley
lane to full mountaineering. Moel Siabod itself is a tough but
rewarding climb, starting from Nant-yr Haf, up the forestry track and
then across the high open moorland to the rocky peak.
