Hello,
I feel that after going to a motorcycle school I was able to attack an finish my enduro race in Deleware this
passed weekend. Motorcycle school gave me the needed help and tips to make it to the end of the 112 mile off-road race.
It was a 8:50 start time for me, and the scheduled finish would be some seven hours plus later. The day started
off with a 6 mile long offroad test, threw some fragmitis and tree lines that had some treachourous mudd obstacles.
If not for my motorcycle school experience I would not have been able to pick the proper line and probally would have been
stuck there with the other few competitors that were. I made it threw and actually was scored as being 6 minutes late.
Which was not too bad. Now we were off to a stretch of road followed by a twelve mile test threw dense tight woods.
It was in here that I had my first bout with some bad luck that would plague me all day. Coming into a turn I noticed my
front brake was not working properly, and it was hard to slow down, or even stop for that matter. So I soldiered on threw the
test with hopes of fixing it later. Well I found out at the gas that the front brake master cyclinder had went, and I
dont usually carry a spare, so I would just have to deal with it. This small issue followed me throughout the day and left me
frustrated that I could not push the limit the way I wanted to. For those of you who dont know, when you hit the rear brake the
bike mostly slides, and the front brake helps aid in stopping it.
After getting some gas, food and liquids I was off to the next test section. Which was definately challenging with
some muddy hills and muddy swamps. I was doing ok but would occassionally stall the motor under hard use of the rear brake
to stop. The bike was getting harder and harder to start, especially when the heat off the motor and the 90 dgree temps
were beginning to make the gas boil in the tank and cause the bike to vapor lock an shut off. So once I cred this problem
by removing the check valve in the fuel cap vent it seemed to start easier. But by now my foot was wasted from kicking that
thing over. So I just kept moving, I finally made it to the finish with a dissappointing day but I finished where over half
of the 300 competitors did not. Thanks to motorcycle school.
