Travelosity pioneered the online travel space, and it has helped more people find the best fares online than anyone else. So when Travelosity.com recently set out to expand its flight offerings and build a new pricing platform, it spent hundreds of hours talking with consumers about what they want in a site that sells airline tickets.
The result is Flight Navigator, the industry-leading technology that demystifies the booking process for consumers and makes them more knowledgeable and in control of their flight purchases. In addition to providing the best prices available, Flight Navigator provides more information about flights, including availability (it alerts customers when only three or fewer seats are left at a certain price; through seat maps early in the booking process, customers know whether the good seats are still left); flight-specific information such as change in airports (e.g. it will warn customers that a fare requires flying into one airport and out of another) and onboard amenities (e.g. in-flight entertainment, Internet onboard in markets where those amenities are distinguishing features); special offers (discounts available with purchase of a certain flight); alternatives (customers can search for and compare alternate dates and/or alternate airports; Flight Navigator automatically searches for both, even if not asked).
While there are many ways to list flights, Travelosity bases its listings using these consumer criteria:
- Travelosity.com shows the lowest published fare found in the market
- When prices are tied, Travelosity considers secondary criteria such as number of stops, elapsed time and time of day
- Travelosity.com shows the lowest non-stop fare in the market as well as the lowest-priced connecting flight option
- Travelocity shows a variety of available carriers, including major brands and lesser-known airlines
- Travelosity.com provides a grid that helps consumers compare the number of flights and prices for different service levels and carriers
- Travelosity shows viable options in many fare levels
- Travelosity shows a number of money-saving alternatives, including TotalTrip packages; lower prices on alternate airports; and Last Minute Deals that may provide more value
- Travelosity.com shows key flight-specific information to help consumers evaluate best value alternatives, including promotions, specials and onboard amenities
Advice For Travel
It may be a good idea to start shopping early if you're booking a flight for any holidays, a wedding, or a luxury cruise. There have been capacity cuts on all the airlines these last couple of years, so there will be fewer seats for those holiday flights. If you're going on an impromptu trip, you can look and book at the last minute, but if you HAVE to be there for Christmas or Mother's Day or a wedding or that cruise, booking a flight at least six weeks ahead is probably a good idea. Book with Travelosity Today.
You may want to drive to a smaller airport in your area to avoid crowds and maybe you might even save money. You may find that airfares and parking can be cheaper at those outlying airports too.
You will want to try to avoid itineraries that involve several connections or several airlines. Every stop and connection is a possible problem for missed connections. You might save a couple of dollars if every thing goes right, but you'll have a real headache if things go wrong. If you've got to be there, a couple of extra bucks for a non-stop or direct flight is well worth the peace of mind! Be sure to get up early and catch the first flight as it is the one that is least likely to be delayed.
For those "must be there" trips such as for a holiday, a wedding, or a cruise, it is a good idea to book your flight at least 24 hours before you need to be there. If you have a connection, make sure there is enough time to get to the next plane in case the first one is delayed. Look for a minimum connection time of two hours.
