Well I’m sure you’ve seen the ads everywhere and it seem that everybody pays the most money for GOLD, but who ACTUALLY PAYS MORE ????????
This may take you a couple of minutes to read but it will be well worth your time it will save you a lot of aggravation and help make you more money for your gold.
If your selling locally, always make sure you can see the scale and gold testing being performed. So that these guys don't mislead you on the WEIGHT or the GRADE (10k,14k,18k) of the gold that they are checking.
If they go behind a wall, another room or to a place right in front of you where you can’t see what’s going on usually that’s bad news for you. It’s all designed that way.
Here are the results of a survey that was recently done in Dade and Broward Counties in Florida. Note: all stores saw the exact same scrap gold on the exact same day. Using 10 Pawnshops and Jewelry stores in the area. They were picked out of the yellow pages at random. Remember what we said earlier. In most places we could not see anything going on when the jewels were being tested.
Here are the findings below.
Store # 1 tried to pay $ 260.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 2 tried to pay $ 340.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 3 tried to pay $ 250.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 4 tried to pay $ 303.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 5 tried to pay $ 250.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 6 tried to pay $ 380.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 7 tried to pay $ 313.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 8 tried to pay $ 266.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store # 9 tried to pay $ 283.00 for the gold we took to their store.
Store #10 tried to pay $ 321.00 for the gold we took to their store.
In 2 of these stores they even tried to pay us without even checking the grade of gold, they only weighed it. I guess at these prices they always make money it don’t matter if it’s 10k , 14k , 18k or (24k pure gold). We actually paid $485.00 from a customer for the same exact jewelry that was taken to these stores.
Listen everyone knows that Jewelry stores and Pawnshops have been taking advantage of the public for decades but there were no other choices to sell your valuables but NOW there are but watch out for some of these websites their just as bad maybe worst.
Now,if you are selling thru a website you must totally relay on their honesty. OUCH !! Here are a few ideas that may help you. Most of all inform yourself, get to know what a DWT,GRAM,OZT or PENNYWEIGHT is cause if you don't, they can tell you that they’ll pay you $20,$30,$40 $50.00 dollars a Pennyweight or Gram and it means nothing to you and they know it. All you know is they said they will pay you more and we all know everyone can’t pay the most for your gold.
First of all send only items that are stamped .750 = 18kt or .585 = 14kt or .417 = 10kt (European gold decimal stamps) for gold. If its silver look for stamps/marks like .925, the word Sterling or items that are Hallmarked,(makers marks) some of these marks have a combination of animals, letters etc… If an item is not stamped or marked in any way you may want to have it checked locally before you send it anywhere. This way you eliminate the most common way the gold dot coms GET you by sending you a check is for only $ 35.24 or some ridiculous amount and then tell you when you call them that the gold or silver was only plated not solid. If they say that the items are only plated, call there bluff have them send them back to you in the mail. That’s if you can call back in time before they melt everything! PLEASE NOTE: Since there has been poor oversight and regulation on gold production not every item that is stamped is actually solid gold. There are fakes out there. There are bad apples in every bunch.
