Up for auction is this Honda CBX motorcycle. 1979 was the best year for the CBX as it was the only year of production with horsepower above 100 (approximately 103 or 106 depending on what you read). After 1979 Honda de-tuned the engines to approximately 80 horsepower so that the bikes could legally be sold in Europe, which had a law that required less than 100 HP for motorcycles at that time.
VIN is 12000916 which is a low number from a collectors standpoint. Color is black and I had the tank and tail piece professionally repainted and re-decaled. Also replaced the tank side CBX plastic emblems. Carburetors were rebuilt by Honda of Glendale in May 2007 and I had oil, plugs, and brake fluid changed at that time too. I have receipts for the repaint and carburetor work. Note that bike has the original 1979 tail piece, now a Very rare item. Much of the engine has been chromed and condition is excellent. I have Kerkers for the exhaust; one side has a tiny bit road rash. Air filters are K&N separates with center two carbs. sharing a large filter. Looks great.
This bike rips! Runs and shifts great! Very fast, smooth, and not hard on the back or neck like the modern sport bikes. It is ready to enjoy and the only suggestion I can make would be to replace rear tire, tread is getting thin. Beware of those low mile 79s out there that have had "nothing done." They WILL need the carbs done as nothing sits for 30 years without a carb rebuild. Expect to pay a Honda service center about $1,500 to make those road ready. This CBX is being sold as-is, where is. I have a clear California Title in hand. No warranties. I recommend inspections and I will permit test rides as long as you have a valid motorcycle driver license and proof of motorcycle insurance.
