17" Sports Saddle Bob Marshall Treeless
17" cutting horse saddle, made by Sports Saddle, Inc., of which Bob Marshall was president. This is the competition model, heavy suede leather covered (rough-out, no tooling), toast color, square skirt, leather covered horn and cantle top, and silver conchos. The bottom (horse side) is covered with a heavy nylon material that dries quickly. The saddle has been used and shows regular wear, but has been well taken care of. Some of the stitches have come loose on the right side inner fender and the nylon webbed rigging shows some wear. The thigh opening measurement is 10". It weighs about 22 lbs (with the stirrups).
17" Treeless Bob Marshall Saddle
This saddle is made with two independent tree sections (thus the term treeless or soft)--a front section and a rear (cantle) section. The main body or pad section rests on the horse's back and connects the two sections together. The saddle flexes as the horse moves and the rider sits between, not on, the two tree sections. It is very comfortable for the horse and the rider, and gives a surprisingly secure ride.
