By using perfectly legal methods you are able to write off credit card debt in the U.K. by up to 90% of the original amount, in two stages.
The first stage uses the Consumer Credit Act 1974 which makes certain credit agreements taken out prior to April 2007 unenforceable. This is because the lenders have been found to have been lazy in the drafting of the agreements and the contracts themselves are lacking in certain respects which make them untenable.
It is believed that around 70% of such agreements fall into this category. This means that if you are repaying any of these loans or credit cards then you are doing so needlessly. A simple legal procedure will establish which of these credit agreements are effectively worthless. This is the first stage of how to write off credit card debt.
The second stage (this is entirely optional) is to take the remaining debt (which by this time will be about 30% of the total amount) and take out an IVA (Individual Voluntary Arrangement) which will immediately wipe out your remaining debt by about 70% again. The amount will vary based on the Insolvency Practitioner's judgment. The remainder will be paid off by small monthly amounts over the next 5 years.
So at the end of the second stage the total debt is reduced to around 10% of the original amount. There is nothing underhand and it's all perfectly legal to write off credit card debt in this way.
