I work at a big home improvement store. We carry building supplies, hardware, plumbing supplies, flooring supplies, paint, garden supplies. While most of our customers have traditionally been professionals in the building and construction business, we also have a lot of do it yourself supplies for consumers interested in home improvement projects. That part of our business has been growing this year, so we've been adjusting our inventory accordingly. We are also offering more home improvement workshops in the store. They're becoming very popular, and they are really helping to boost product sales. We are located in an area of the country that has really been hit hard by credit problems and it's no surprise that new construction has fallen off. The housing market has suffered badly.
These days, homeowners are more likely to fix up what they have, rather than try to buy new homes. Our professional customers are also doing more home repairs and renovations, rather than building new houses and commercial property. We have several more stores in the city, and they all report the same trend. Our business hasn't suffered much, but it's changed somewhat to reflect the times. We just have to be adaptable.
