My company sells and services business equipment. We're located in a large industrial zone with big warehouses. The company has different departments, but everyone needs to stay on top of new business technology - it can change pretty quickly these days. I work with large construction equipment, so it's important for me to stay current with industrial updates; otherwise, I wouldn't be of much use to my customers or my employer.
With the economy the way it is, a lot of our customers are cutting back on purchases of big-ticket items; we're doing a lot more servicing and repair of their existing equipment, and we're buying and selling more used equipment and equipment parts. We have a large repair shop that's seeing a lot of business these days. That's really helped keep our company in the black, which is more that can be said of a lot of other businesses. But we're certainly not taking anything for granted. Many other workers in this area have gotten laid off, so we know we're lucky to be working for a company that's doing well. We've got some really intelligent and experienced managers who know what they're doing. They're always telling us to stay alert.
