I was recently promoted to foreman in an industrial machine shop. I've been working here ever since I graduated from high school many years ago. Of course part of my duties now involves supervising employees, but I still put in time on the floor when we're short-staffed or when the equipment needs special attention. I am familiar with all our tools and equipment. More recently I've even had to learn more about business equipment, since I'm spending more time in the office, something new to me.
The boss has really treated me well. He knows I'm a good worker, and he's taken a personal interest in seeing me rise through the ranks. He's even having me read about industrial views online. At first I didn't understand exactly why, but he said he wanted me to get a better idea of business views about different matters across the country, and even around the world. He says we can't afford to take anything for granted these days if we are to stay competitive. This is a family-owned business that has plans to expand. We already have contracts in some neighboring states; the boss has his son looking for more business in other states.
