If you are thinking of pursuing an online bachelor’s degree, you may be wondering how you can make sure that you will be getting a quality education online. I mean, for all you know, the guy teaching your class could be a garbage truck driver looking to earn a little extra money, right?
Well, perhaps that’s an exaggeration, but in most cases you will find that most instructors in online education are well qualified to teach their classes. Not that it hurts to check, though -- you can and should verify that you will really be getting an education worthy of the tuition you are paying.
Just like most traditional universities, many online schools require that instructors have advanced degrees in the subject or subjects they wish to teach. Some schools, such as vocational and career colleges, also seek out teachers with on-the-job experience.
To make sure the online college you are considering hires qualified teachers, you can browse their website for faculty profiles or an “About Us” page. If you cannot find this information on the website, you may need to request it from your admissions contact. You may also wish to ask someone at the school what standards they use in hiring instructors; I would suggest going directly to the department of the subject you will be majoring in, as this is where the majority of your education will come from.
Although many people are skeptical about the quality of education you get from online schools, the truth is most of these schools provide good instruction from good teachers. It doesn’t hurt to double check and protect yourself, though -- after all, it is a big investment!
