Sterling American Silver Ornate Serving / Basting Spoon for sale
This is a very good and very ornate Sterling American Silver Serving/Basting Spoon. It has a pretty embossed scroll pattern that runs around the whole outline of the handle and down to the top shaped corners of the bowl and it has a shell shape to the terminal It has a lovely deep oval shaped bowl which is shaped at the top corners and it has a part fluted bowl.
It does have entwined engraved initials on the top of the handle, but they are so fancy that I cannot make them out. This lovely spoon also has a prong on the back of the handle to stop it slipping into the serving dish.
Identifying Marks: It is stamped with a lion holding the letter "W" which is the marks for the Whiting Manufacturing Co. (founded in North Attleboro, Massachusetts in 1866. Purchased in 1926 by the Gorham Co. and relocated to Providence, Rhode Island). It is also stamped "Sterling pat 1891 Black Starr & Frost" which I believe is a very good retailer in California)
Dimensions: 12 inches long, the bowl 3.5 inches long, 2.25 inches wide at its widest middle point and 0.75 inch deep. It is of a good solid weight and weighs 4.3/8 oz (123g)
Condition: It is in very good condition
Remarks: This really is a very decorative and ornate serving/basting spoon that would look impressive on any table
