The M16 rifle family (M16/A1/A2/A3/A4) has been the primary infantry rifle of the United States military since the 1964. It has been in use by 15 NATO countries, and is the most produced firearm in its caliber. The M16 is a lightweight, 5.56 mm caliber, gas-operated rifle. It is constructed of steel, aluminum and composite plastics. The M16A4 is a variant of the M16A2 with a Picatinny rail under the removable carrying handle. This set up allows different optics to be mounted on the top of the receiver. It is widely used as a sniper rifle.
