Interior Design Tips: Window Treatment
What do you see when you take a step back and look at your windows?
You can see your windows in a whole new light with insights from a professional interior designer. With just a little bit of thought about the look you are trying to achieve, combined with the knowledge of window treatment experts, windows like those seen in the top design magazines are just days away.
When you talk about window treatment, it means all the accessories required to decorate a window.
In interior decorating, window treatments generally come in two varieties based on the texture of the material used in the decoration: soft and hard. Curtains or drapery including sheers, window blinds including Venetian blinds and plantation shutters, a valance, tiebacks used to hold curtains, paper or cloth screens on a solid frame, shades, such as Roman shades, pleated fabric shades, or roller shades. Treatments may also include treatment applied directly to glass.
Here are a few tips for window treatments:
Be sure to use some form of a treatment, however minimal. It softens the room’s architecture and adds privacy, drama, and color.
Try some various shades, if drapes are too bold, which add wonderful visual texture and maintain a clean look.
Another way to add decorative treatments to windows without the feel of heavy drapes is to use sheers and valances.
Glass block can be used, which allows light through without the ability to see in, not even silhouettes.
To avoid a sense of vulnerability when looking out of black holes at night, window treatments help. Even a sheer helps alleviate this feeling.
Window treatments may be for interior design (purely decorative) or may also serve functional purposes, such as security, providing better insulation and temperature control, and light control.
