Examples Of Science Fair Projects: Water On The Move Science Fair Project

In this Science Fair Projects, one of our Examples Of Science Fair Projects, we are going to look at the destructive power of water and in our next science fair projects we are going to have a look at how a delta is formed.

So have a look at this good science fair project, one of our Examples Of Science Fair Projects, about the destructive power of water!

As we all know rivers start high up in the hills or mountains and then they wind their way down to the sea or to a lake. A river normally starts with a tiny stream running down the slopes from rain or it is started by the bubbling up of water from a spring. While the water is running down the hill, it is joined by other streams and it grows bigger until it finally becomes a river.

In this Science Fair project we are going to build a model to demonstrate how water moving across the land changes and we are also going to see the destruction it can cause. In the upper reaches the water flows very fast and it cuts down through deep and narrow valleys. Later, when it is lower down, the water broadens and it also deepens into a river. Eventually the river moves across a broad floodplain, where it often forms a delta, before it reaches the see.

Now to demonstrate the destructive power of water

This is what you will need:

  • A Jug
  • Water
  • A baking tray
  • A tray or a bowl
  • A brick
  • Sand
  • A sand castle mould

This is what you need to do:

  1. Place the one end of your baking tray on a brick.
  2. Place the other end on a lower tray or on a bowl.
  3. Now you have to make a castle on the top part of your tray using your sand and sand castle mold.
  4. By taking your jug with some water in it, slowly drip water over your sand castle.

Carefully observe what is happening now. Here it is important to mention that the way you do your science project is very important. To make very sure you use the correct scientific method and that you are keeping the correct records I strongly recommend that you get an e-book such as Science Fair Projects Made Easy to help you. You will see that your castle start to take on another shape.

Why do you think it happens?

Now you can start pouring a trickle of water at the back of your castle making sure it flows down the center of your baking tray.

What do you see happening?

Record your observations. See Science Fair Projects Made Easy to help you with this.

It is also a good idea to take photos of your experiment before, during and after your experiment for your display. To find our how to do a good display for your Science Fair Project I strongly recommend a good e-book such as Science Fair Projects Made Easy .

In a later Science Fair Project we will have a look at how a delta forms.
