Age of Empires III is mostly set in the New World during the colonial era which is between AD 1421 and 1850. Like previous titles of the series and genres, the game requires the player to develop a European nations colony from a basic settlement to an empire, that is, to help it progress through Ages or stages of technological development and at the same time, destroy the enemy bases. There are two main branches to gameplay: the economy which is defined by the collection of resources and production of civilian units who gathers the resources and theres the military which involves the production of military units and the conflicts between armies of rival teams and factions. A match consists of a conflict between two or more teams that race to develop a powerful nation by creating and upgrading units and buildings, until one is defeated either through combat or resignation. The game ends when theres only one player or team left standing on the map.
The game starts with you playing as the British and begins with a solid economy, or leads the French into an easy alliance with Native Americans. There are 8 total civilizations to choose from. Explore the New World and create colonies while seeking out new resources and making alliances with the Native Americans and work with them to your tactical advantage, for the first time ever. You can develop your own Home City, customize it and make it wealthier and more powerful as you take over Europe. You can also increase your resources by recovering buried treasure from the Caribbean, hunting bison on the Great Plains, competing for trade routes and fortifying the coast of New England.
