Mio Heart Rate Watch was created in 1999 by entrepreneur Liz Dickinson, a mother of three who wanted to shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child but just have little time spare for fitness with her daily schedule of balancing family and career. While working with her personal trainer, Liz realized that the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market yet that would easily help her follow her trainers advice.
With no extra time to devote in reading labels and having a calorie journal nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. Her creation of Mio, the worlds first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap answered her search for a better way to lose those fats.
